Day One
of 2018 Hoe Toa NZ Paddle Champs True to prediction, a solid 20 knot North East breeze gave paddlers a great 10km downwind line from Otarawao (Sullivan’s Bay) in Mahurangi Regional Park, back to Orewa Beach.

The Hoe Tawhiti 16km Paddlers headed upwind for 3km before turning around a fixed mark off the point, to line up a fast, fun, challenging 13km race all the way to the beach. With some of New Zealand and Australia’s top paddlers on the course,
Marcus Hansen (NSP), Trevor Tunnington (Starboard), Lincoln Dews (Deep), Penelope Strickland (Starboard), Ollie Houghton (Starboard), Ben Tardrew (One) and New Caledonian paddler Maxime Defazio, the Hoe Tawhiti provided a great opportunity for NZ’s weekend warriors to push their limits and measure themselves against some of the best paddlers in the world.
