FANATIC 10’4 FLY PREMIUM TEST REVIEW

Verdict:
This very stiff chunky windSUP not only looked great but performed very well on the water. It tracked better than most in this large group and was pretty quick too. The paddling position is a touch higher off the water; a very well presented quality board from Fanatic.

Overview:
This really stiff Fanatic felt light and solid to carry for its size. It has a neo’ covered webbing handle, diamond cut deck pad, and cargo bungees. Two large iFINS and the only glass centre fin on test help it track very well. The rails on the Fanatic are multi layered and appreciably stiff, and it packs down with its switch pump into a tailored wheeled smart back pack. A refined product from a leading brand.

Brand Claim:
Inspired by our popular Fly composite range, the Fly Air is the convenient answer to limited storage, city life and travellers’ demands. The all-round, Longboard style outline offers a great mix of glide, stability and all terrain versatility. Optimised thickness provides outstanding rigidity without additional air pressure, whilst the extra volume caters to those looking for an even easier ride.

Performance:
This great looking, very stiff board was right at the top of the group for desirability among our testers. In our glide test it was also right up there in the top three too. We found the stiff, directional feel of the Fly a pleasure to paddle offering plenty of glide. Fanatic have been in this market for some time and been working hard to bring high quality products to paddlers and this 2017 board really raises the bar in the iSUP sphere. We loved the multi layered very stiff rails, the smart graphics and overall performance. This board being slightly thicker than most gives you a high-and-dry feeling when paddling but also feels slightly less stable with its more drawn out tail and slightly narrower nose than some of the other boards. The Fly has a progressive nose rocker which gives smooth tracking across chop. In general, the Fanatic Premium should last for years in this tougher high end construction (there is a cheaper, lighter, non windSUP version too,  the Standard Fly Air).  A premium board from one of the best global brands, it’s simply a very polished product you’ll be happy with for years to come. Well recommended by our testers.
