Press Release:

HOTD

SUNDAY 17th APRIL, Dartmouth to Totnes.

As the sport of Stand Up Paddling continues to blossom across the world (particularly here in the South Hams), a perfect way to begin the new season is the iconic Head of the Dart Stand Up Paddle Challenge, taking place on Sunday 17th April. Alternating in direction annually, this year the paddle begins in the historic naval town of Dartmouth and finishing by the Rowing Club eight miles inland in Totnes. The ethos of this event is to embrace recreational paddlers and novice racers on all types of SUP board (minimum recommended length is 10ft).

Who’s it for?
Anyone over 16 with a reasonable level of fitness with basic stand up paddle skills. The challenge is tide-assisted so unless there’s a strong northerly wind the full course should be achievable for paddlers of both recreational and race boards.
Several of the country’s leading racers will be taking part, some of whom are likely to complete the eight mile course in well under ninety minutes. While these competitors whizz off into the distance and out of sight, the bulk of the fleet will be cruising in the “leisure” class, where the aim is to complete the course whilst absorbing the stunning rural Devon scenery.
