Saturday 2nd December – Perth, WA, Australia

King of the Cut is Australia’s premier downwind SUP race event of the year. In it’s 6th year running, the 24km King of the Cut race was better than ever, with top contestants smashing previous race records in an ultimate contest.

The race began at Dawesville Cut and finished at Secret Harbour, Mandurah, with top conditions on the day making the contest “the best ever”.

Aussie powerhouse Michael Booth competed in the Unlimited class this year for the first time  on the new Starboard 18’0″ X 24.25″ Ace Unlimited

“The race was super fun, I had an absolute ball out there racing with the boys.”

“In the first 12km there was a light wind, then it really picked up and was a lot stronger coming into the finish.”

“The conditions just got better and better as the race progressed, it was a fast finish”, said Booth.

It was also first experiences for Kiwi paddler Trevor Tunnington as he entered to compete in his first ever Foil downwinder. The day started out with little wind which meant he had his work cut out for him over the first leg paddling the 6’10 Hypernut. Once the wind picked up and bumps started roll in, then Trev started to have some fun;

“Pretty proud to be the first foiler to compete in The King of the Cut! It was very tough paddling 24km in light downwind conditions but the last 5km were epic when the wind came through! I can’t wait to explore more of the downwind side of this sensational sport. I was using the Maliko 160 GoFoil on a Starboard 6’10 X 26.5″ Hypernut out there but would love to try a larger GoFoil in those light winds.”
