PRESS RELEASE

Naish One World Championships, Lake Chiemsee Bavaria.

A team of 5 riders (Lily Young, Keith Gorman, Stuart Appleby, Ben Fisher and Alex Tobutt) have just returned from the Naish One World Championships on lake Chiemsee in Bavaria, Germany. The event attracted 115 competitors from 16 different countries with entrants even making the Journey from as far away as Australia and Japan. The age range was from 8yrs to 65yrs, all competing and cheering each other on with courses set just off the beach to allow some great spectating. Ben Fisher and Lily Young qualified for an expenses paid trip after winning at the Naish One National Championships held in Weymouth in July.
Competitors raced on identical 12’6 Naish One Air Boards to provide true one design racing where only the effort of the paddler makes the difference. Focus was much more on having fun and getting stuck in rather than discussing what kit you and your competitors were using. Use of Air boards also allowed for some intense close quarters racing without the risk or expense of board damage.

The Championships consisted of three race disciplines; Sprint distance, mid distance and long distance race with a fun team challenge to finish the weekend. Saturday night saw the entire fleet descend on on restaurant for a night of good food and local beer ahead of the famous Oktober fest in Germany.

The UK Team returned with a World Champion and made podiums in all races apart from the Long distance race where a navigation error sent the train of UK paddlers off in the wrong direction. Team UK returned Lily Young as Youth Female Naish One World Champion as well as a 2nd Place in the men’s Sprint discipline (Alex Tobutt) and a 2nd (Alex Tobutt) and 3rd (Ben Fisher) in the men’s Mid distance race.
The Overall Mens World Championship title was won by Daniel Reinhart from Switzerland and for the ladies, Manca Notar from Slovenia dominated the fleet.
