Watergate Bay gears up for the British stand up paddleboard championships this weekend

Conditions are looking good for the seventh British Stand Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA) National Surf SUP Championships this weekend at Watergate Bay.

Waves are anticipated to reach heights of between 3ft to 4ft with light offshore winds forecast for the weekend. The weather is set to be partly cloudy on both days of the competition but with no sign of rain. Low tide is at 10.45 on Saturday and 11.21 on Sunday.

Held at Watergate Bay in North Cornwall since 2009, the event is well established as the country’s leading stand up paddleboarding (SUP) wave-riding contest.

Finalists in both the open men’s and open women’s competitions will be eligible for selection to represent Team GB in the 2016 ISA Stand Up Paddleboard World Championships.

The running order for the two days of the event is as follows:

Saturday October 10th
Competitor registration: 07:00 – 08:00
Competitor briefing: 08:30
First possible start Open Mens: 09:00
Open Womens and Under 16 Boys Qualifying Rounds: 13:00 – 15:00
Finish for day: 17:00/17:30

Sunday October 11th
Competitor briefing: 08:30
First possible start: 09:00
Finals for Under 16 Boys, Open Women and Open Mens: 14:30 – 16:00
Prize giving on the beach: 16:30
