BLUEFIN CRUISE LITE 10’0 TEST REVIEW

Verdict

The Cruise Lite delivers surprises on and off the water. This ingenious little compact board can turn its hand to surfing your local beach, day touring or fitness paddles. At 10’0 x 30” x 5”, it will suit most adults and be especially useful for younger riders since it weights so little! The Cruise Lite packs down very small, has a clean, glossy look and feels lively on the water.

Overview

Unpacking the Cruise Lite was a real surprise. At just 7.2 kg, it’s a very light board. This is made possible due to the single-layer drop-stitch construction and reinforcing stringer. The Cruise Lite is also very compact, thanks to the split EVA deck pad and flexible US centre fin box. The material itself feels supple and has a nice lustre to it; of course it rolls up tightly without crinkles and creases.

This board has three strong carry handles at the nose, midpoint, and over the tail. This gives great portage and towing options, big tick. The cargo bungee is sleek and can be quickly unclipped (for surfing). You also get a camera-mount on the nose and a handy reflective D-ring behind the bungee for clipping valuable items or securing a tow line.

This is a comprehensive package with pump, compact backpack, 5-piece carbon paddle, leash and touring fin.

Brand Claim

Our lightest board to date. Designed by industry specialists for a SUP that is light as well as robust and flexible. Perfectly suited to all your adventures. The Bluefin Cruise Lite SUP package, weighing just 13.6kg, includes a high-quality board, a five-piece carbon fibre paddle, a Swift mini pump, a waterproof bag, and a unique touring standard SUP fin, promoting enhanced paddling speed and distance. Ideal for travellers and adventurers due to its lightweight and compact design, it employs a 5” drop stitch core and light accessories for effortless carriage. It’s especially suitable for families and varying skill levels, ensuring stable and manageable paddling with its all-rounder hull shape and full-length deck pad, while prioritizing safety with reflective D-ring mounts and an included ankle leash.

Performance

The Cruise Lite carries a more ‘surfey’ template than a standard all-rounder; it shows a bit more sweep in the nose and a squared off tail. With the 5” rail thickness (compared to ubiquitous 6”) this makes the Cruise Lite good fun for hopping onto some rolling beach break swells.

This board feels nimble on the water and holds is composure nicely thanks to the encircling stringers. It will take a maximum 28 psi but we found 15 psi to be perfectly adequate. With a maximum payload of 125 kg, the Cruise Lite will float most adults nicely but as we found, it’s also a great board for kids. The light weight, lower ride height and slightly smaller dims than a regular all-rounder make it less intimidating for smaller riders off and on the water.

The Cruise Lite is a featherweight at 7.2 kg. This makes a big difference in the day-to-day practicalities of loading it into or onto the car or carrying it up the beach and really reduces the chore factor of paddling. Another plus point for families with kids!

Bluefin’s shiney, compact and nimble Cruise Lite was a real surprise and the entire package is currently available for around £449 on their website.
